Kitchen Cabinet Construction

So here's the first post of this little side blog we're calling, The Workshop.
So having access to a commercial millwork shop when you're building a kitchen does have its benefits.
Here is the cabinet box material along with the panel material for the doors and finished end panels. The boxes are out of 3/4" prefinished maple plywood. The panels are out of 1/2" MDF. I went with the MDF because it machines nicely, it's very stable (i.e. it will expand and contract less with the seasons), and it takes paint like a champ.
Here is a screenshot of one of the programs I use. This one is on the computer station by the machine and is for making the machine run.
Here's a shot of the tooling carousel and the machine head.
That dado is to accept the bottom of the cabinet. The bottom will have a corresponding rabbet, making a tongue that fits right in there snug.

The machine in action! Turns out it's not actually all that exciting. I probably should have started recording a minute or two later to give you the full effect. For a bit of a description, it first changes tools and then will do all of the drilling for shelves and predrill holes. Then, it machines the dadoes and rabbets for assembly and finally, cuts the outer shape of each part. With the next post, I'll go over how I put them together.

Coming Soon!

We're adding this Workshop to give a more in depth look for those that are interested in the how-to's of renovating a farmhouse... well at least how we did it, anyways.
